Our repertoire
Our artistic director Robert Bekkers picks and arranges works that allow for great musical interpretation, has good melodic material, interesting harmonies, is rhythmically sound, in good taste, and has a broad appeal. Selections from all style periods can be part of the repertoire and most definitely new repertoire, especially when written for guitar ensemble.
One incentive is to have at least one commissioned piece written for our orchestra every season.
The repertoire projected for the 2023/24 fall semester:
Trio J. Haydn/ arr.: R. Bekkers
“A typical work to be played by guitar ensembles, but now enriched with extended musical material and of course other guitar shaped objects.”
Ariane Grande PFL Arr.: R. Bekkers
“The many things that happen in popular culture affect our listening as well as our perception of the world. Setting Ariana Grande in the traditional format of Prelude, Fugue, Allegro, makes it rise above merely being a faint blueprint.”
Requerdos de la Alhambra F Tárrega/Arr.” R. Bekkers
“A famous work most classical guitarists would want to play if they not already did. This time set for the orchestra, with a twist to not only revive, but rather enhance the old.”
Taranta Carlos Rivera
“This work was originally written for guitar ensemble and as such, it was performed with the Boston Guitar Orchestra and myself. Added parts are: Ukulele, Steel-string.”
A Christmas caroling arr.: R. Bekkers
“A collection of famous Christmas carols, set in an appealing way.”
